AP3 and MP3: What is the Difference?

When to Use AP3 Grease
Choose AP3 when your equipment faces heavy loads, shock loading, and high-stress conditions:
Excavator bucket pins and bushings — the constant digging, lifting, and swinging motion creates enormous stress on pin joints. AP3’s superior load-carrying capacity prevents premature wear.
Crane slew bearings — the main slew bearing on a crane carries the entire upper structure. AP3’s mechanical stability ensures the grease does not break down under this continuous heavy load.

Can You Use AP3 Where MP3 is Recommended (and Vice Versa)?
AP3 in place of MP3: Yes, this always works. AP3 exceeds MP3’s performance in load capacity and mechanical stability. The only downside is slightly higher cost.
MP3 in place of AP3: Not recommended for heavy-duty applications. MP3 may not provide sufficient protection under extreme loads, leading to premature bearing failure and costly downtime.
The safe rule: you can always go up in grade (use AP3 instead of MP3), but never go down.
How Much Grease Does Your Equipment Need?
